Wife. Mom. Superwoman

This is Me | FAQs of Deidre & WifeMomSuperwoman.com – Part 1

This is Me | FAQ's of Deidre & WifeMomSuperwoman.com - Part 1I’ve been absolutely floored by all of the new Facebook, Instagram (WifeMomSWoman) and Pinterest friends that have discovered WMS in the past week. Wow. Thank you for thinking my blog is cool/interesting/inspirational/funny enough to stick around. You can’t possibly imagine what it means to me.

As most of you know, I currently have a MAJOR giveaway that’s still open here through midnight today, Wednesday December 10th, 2014 at 11:59 PM PST. I’m giving away 18 of my favorite things as a sincere THANK YOU for all of the love and support you gals have shown me over the past three years since I launched the blog. Make sure you go leave a comment on the post ASAP here to enter to win if you haven’t done so already.

Because I have so many new friends here on the blog, I thought it would be fun to do a FAQ post so y’all can get to know me a little better. As most of you know, WifeMomSuperwoman.com is not a “personal journey blog”, meaning, it’s not 100% about me or my life. I sprinkle plenty of stories and personal experiences throughout each post to connect with my readers, but really, it’s more of a platform to explore topics that I love and am passionate about, like faith, parenting, sex/marriage, racism, and how to love others the way I believe we’re called to love – which is all the way to the bottom.

If you’re new to the blog, I strongly suggest you read my first (ever) three posts that really sum up what WMS is all about:

1. My Name is Wife

2. My Name is Mom

3. My Name is Superwoman

How/why did you start WifeMomSuperwoman?

It wasn’t something I planned to do with my life. About three years into my marriage my husband and I decided to leave The Great State of Texas (and our full-blown support system) and moved to Los Angeles. I began to feel alone and trapped. With everyone back in Texas, I longed for the deep connection I’d always had in my life. I knew Jesus loved me and had a plan for my life, but suddenly I was in this Wide Open Space of uncharted territory and the only thing I could do was sit, be still, and listen. I quickly began to understand that the loss of physical connection with people back home was a God-given blessing. It was my time for a shift in gears. It was time to write. One day,  literally out. of. the. blue. God gave me an exact vision of what he was calling me to do: start a virtual home for women across the globe.

What is one topic you will never discuss on your blog?

Politics. DUH! 😉

How did you meet your husband?

I get asked this  A LOT. I met my husband when I was in college. He played the electric guitar and I lead worship in a campus ministry worship band. We had a ton of mutual friends and went to the same church, and after about 2 years of friendship we dated for three years, broke up for six months of that, were engaged for six months and have been married for seven and a half years. He is my best friend first, lover second. I love him somethin’ fierce, y’all.

P.s. I know, you want to hear about the six month break up. It’s actually a good story, but I’ll save that for a future post. Stay tuned! 😉

What are your all-time favorite books?

Here’s a few that I LURVE (you can click on each for more info):

What’s been your favorite blog posts you’ve written so far?

This is a tough one. I can’t just name one so I limited myself to 3 in each blog category (which was really REALLY hard) because I write each post from the heart…

Favorite “Wife” Blogs:

The Meaning of Marriage – a post about the meaning of life, and how it is the true reason for marriage

A Love Letter to My BodyOut With The NEW & In With The OLD – a post about what happens when the newness of love wears off

The Vulnerable Wife – a post about how true love takes steep risks, no matter what

Favorite “Mom” Blogs:

Pregnant & Sexy: 7 Sex Positions to Enjoy During Pregnancy – I think this one is self explanatory 😉

The Grace of God is The Glue – a post about the revelation that God will fill in the gaps of our shortcomings in parenting

5 Things Parenting is Teaching Me About God – a post about God teaching me his deep love for me through my own parenting journey

Favorite “Superwoman” Blogs:

The Gift No One Wants But Everyone Gets – a post about the gift of pain, and finding treasures in dark places

The Beaten Path to God – a post about how to be close to God through good times, hard times, and discipline

To My One & Only: A Love Letter to My Body – a post about how to love our bodies, flaws and all

What are your biggest pet peeves?

Posting pictures of spiders or toes on Facebook. (Dear Texas readers – PLEASE STOP POSTING PHOTOS OF “WOLF SPIDERS”. WTH?!

People being habitually late. (P.s. Mom’s don’t count – you get a pass. DUH.)

When a certain someone leaves food open overnight and it goes stale. (COUGH. COUGH. Babe, are you reading this?! xx )

Costco shoppers stopping in the middle of the (freaking) aisle and not bothering to move their cart out of the way. Come ON people!

People asking me when I’m going to have another kid. Or even worse, asking WHY we haven’t had more kids. #ifeelablogpostcomingonyall

What’s the best and worst part about being a blogger?

Best part – Meeting new friends around the world, hearing their stories, and being encouraged when I hear how WMS has touched their lives. Words really can’t express how much each email, comment and message means to me!

Worst part – It’s always scary writing posts that I know will be controversial, but that are deeply important to me, like my posts about Ferguson and Trayvon Martin. It’s not the “worst” thing, but it is certainly an area that is less comfortable but much more important to blog about.

Do you make money blogging?

Yes, I do! There’s a million ways that bloggers can earn money, but my main stream of income comes when y’all shop through my Amazon affiliate links like the book recommendations above (especially during the holidays)! The short version – I make a commission off of items you purchase through my Amazon referrals. It’s pretty amazing, and I’m incredibly grateful to you all who shop through my site! Especially on my gift idea posts like this one, this one and this one! Thanks to all my amazing readers who support my family financially! Xoxo

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I grew up thinking I would either be A). A veterinarian or, B). A singer in a duo group like The Judds with my mom. #truestory #stilllovethosegirls

What’s your biggest fear?

As a blogger – that I will say/write something that’s inaccurate or hurtful or that will get me sued. LOL.

As a human being – not fully embracing and sharing the love of Jesus in every area of my life.

OK, enough about ME, I want to hear about YOU! Tell me something about who YOU are, where you’re from, what you do, who you love, what your dreams are – whatever you feel like telling me about yourself. I want to get to know you! Oh, and if you think of any other questions you’d like me to answer in Part 2, feel free to include those as well. GO!

P.s. Don’t forget to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram (WifeMomSWoman) and Pinterest! Xo

“People asking me when I’m going to have another kid. Or even worse, asking WHY we haven’t had more kids. #ifeelablogpostcomingonyall”

#amen #preach I will be blogging about this as well. Definitely one of my BIGGEST pet peeves!

I love your blog. Seriously. I wish I had been a strong, more godly wife in my first marriage. I wish I had found you sooner, but I know I found you now because I’m ready for this. I’m ready for a second chance.

    • WifeMomSWoman

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, Candice. I’m so glad you found WMS too :) I believe in divine timing – God has so much in store for you girlfriend!! Xo – Deidre

  2. Susanna

Loved this – it’s fun to get a glimpse into your life! Also – I would LOVE a blog post about people asking why other people haven’t had another kid. My husband and I don’t have kids (yet), and it’s crazy how often we are asked. Very frustrating. I’d love to hear your take!

    • WifeMomSWoman

UGH. Believe me, Susanna, it’s COMING! LOL. Stay tuned! And thanks for always reading and commenting. I always notice, and I ALWAYS appreciate it :) Xo – Deidre

  3. Elaine Mingus (@SuperRadWriter)

This is fab! I’m taking EBA (Ruth Soukup) and I have it schedule to do a page like this for my ABOUT page. You should make this page more permanent as well as a blog. People can really get a feel for YOU and it won’t get lost in the shuffle!

    • WifeMomSWoman

Thanks for the feedback, Elaine! I do have plans to do that – stay tuned! Xo – Deidre

  4. Ashley Prendergast

I just stumbled across your blog and I LOVE IT HERE! You have an amazing and exciting writing style. Looking forward to another post :)

    • WifeMomSWoman

Hi Ashley! Thanks so much for the sweet comment! I am so glad you found my blog! I checked out your blog and think you’re doing a great job! Way to rep Jesus AND NJ. P.s. I too am a MAJOR Chipotle fan 😉 Xo!

  5. Natalia Catlett

I found your blog through Pinterest and began reading- during quiet time in our school day- and have enjoyed seeing your realness. You are a well spoken writer with a true grip on what honors our Lord. I am happy to see another Jesus follower write about topics that, to some, might seem inappropriate. I look forward to reading more of your writings!!

    • WifeMomSWoman

Hi Natalia! Wow, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment. Yes, I know some folks find my posts controversial at times, but I try to stay true to myself and Jesus :) So, thanks for the encouragement – it really means so much to me! I hope you’ll keep in touch! Xo – Deidre

  6. Amy Maricle

    HI Deidre:

I love learning more about you and which posts are your faves.

I think that a post about the etiquette of talking to young women about pregnancy and future children would be so helpful. I’d definitely read that one. :)

Thanks for your fun, real post!

    • WifeMomSWoman

Thank you so much, Amy! I appreciate you reading and commenting :) I will be posting again in a couple weeks… Def still need to tackle that blog topic 😉 Xo – Deidre
